FlashWorksΓÇÖs basic purpose is to read in a list of words in a foreign language, set a search to select just those words that you wish, find the words that match the search, and then flash them to you. Because you can set a level of difficulty for each word, you can fine-tune your word list so you can study just those words you wish.
This help document is much more extensive than that in the programΓÇÖs help screen and can be printed on a printer. Along with the program we have released word lists for Greek (including a screen font named "Mounce"), Hebrew (including a screen font named "Flash"), Spanish, German, and French. They are named "FlashWorks Data Greek," "FlashWorks Data German," etc. All these files will be uploaded to CompuServe, America Online, First Class, Internet (macgifts) in their educational forums. In America Online, it will also be posted to the ARIEL forum.
If you learn the formating instructions in the "Advanced" chapter in this document, you can create your own word lists or modify existing ones. We would encourage you to make these lists and put them on-line. If you do, we will wave the shareware fee for you and your class and will appreciate your contribution.
Each of the features of FlashWorks is described under the ΓÇ£ChaptersΓÇ¥ heading in the menu bar. Have fun, and learn those languages.
If you are just starting ...
If you are just starting with FlashWorks, please read the "Fast Start" under the "Chapters" menu in the menu bar. This is especially important so you can learn how to make the words come up in Greek.
Legal stuff
FlashWorks is a copyrighted program. It is released as shareware. This means that if you use it for more than 30 days, you must buy it or destroy it. It cannot be distributed for charge, other than the cost of producing the disk. This document must always be distributed with the program. The shareware fee for this version is,
$3.00
If you are using FlashWorks in conjunction with my basic Greek grammar, The Basics of Biblical Greek (Zondervan), there is no shareware charge. If you are a teacher and want to use it in your class, it is $10 per year for as many classes as you teach. Payments should be sent to,
Dr. William D. Mounce
1306 W. Bellwood Drive
Spokane, Washington 99218-2911
I can also be contacted at the following electronic addresses:
Internet: mounce@macsbbs.spk.wa.us (preferred)
Internet from AOL: mounce@macsbbs.spk.wa.us
Internet from CompuServe: >INTERNET:mounce@macsbbs.spk.wa.us
America On-Line: Mounce
CompuServe: 71540,2140 (only if necessary)
All I want is enough money to cover my on-line fees that are necessary to support and upgrade the program. If I do not receive my meagery payments, I will not be able to support or upgrade the package, and it will die. You guys are the judge of its success.
FlashWorks was written in FutureBasic from Zedcor. If you are programming on a Macintosh in basic, this is the software to use. The other MUST is PG:PRO by Staz Software. Their advertising is included with FutureBasic. This program generator takes almost all the problems associated with programming the Macintosh interface and handles them automatically. Your development time will probably be cut to 20%.
